Here’s the poster for Disney-Pixar Animation Studio’s latest film, Wall-E, coming out this summer:

Looks great.

I’m really looking forward to this movie. It seems as though Pixar’s back on track with this one; Ratatouille and Cars, the last two Pixar films, just didn’t quite measure up to the rather lofty expectations set by Pixar’s past successes: Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles, to name a few. (You can check out my review of Ratatouille here.)

I remember the last time I was truly excited about a Pixar film: it was right after watching the original teaser trailer for The Incredibles, which, as you may recall, featured an out-of-shape, overweight Mr. Incredible struggling to squeeze into his old superhero duds. An awesome trailer and a terrific film.

The key here is character. Unlike Remy or Lightning McQueen, Wall-E doesn’t have a whole lot to say, but he sure is fun to watch. I love his quick transformations and his comical interactions with his little cockroach buddy.

Entertaining. Endearing. Memorable. Those are the qualities I’ve come to expect from Pixar’s characters.

The animation’s always top-notch and light-years (pardon the pun) ahead of the competition, but it’s the quality of the writing and the characters that keeps me coming back for more.

Are my expectations way too high? Definitely, but they’re not unreasonable given Pixar’s track record. On the whole, Pixar has managed to surpass my expectations repeatedly and consistently.

If you haven’t seen the trailers for Wall-E yet, I definitely recommend checking them out. (Follow the link then click on the button for Videos.)

I’m definitely going to check this one out in theaters come June 27.
