Here’s a cool, i am 8-Bit-style piece by artist Fellipe Martins:
Fun!
You can take a look at some of the artist’s other artwork over at http://nationpoo.blogspot.com/.
A week ago I posted a Super Mario Bros. short by Gabe Swarr (you can check it out here), one of the artists who contributed to I Am 8-Bit, a really cool book featuring original works of art in various media all inspired by retro video games – Donkey Kong, Frogger, Pac-Man, and the like.
Here are a few examples of Gabe Swarr’s Nintendo-related work:
(This one, dubbed “Mario Block,” can be found in I Am 8-Bit.)
If you grew up in the 80s like I did and have a fondness for old-school video games like the ones mentioned above, all from the 8-bit arcade/NES-era of gaming, you should definitely check out the book – there’s a lot of great stuff in there.
If you enjoyed the previous clip, here’s another one directed by Gabe Swarr, this time presenting the history of Donkey Kong in just slightly over a minute:
The short was produced as an extra for the DVD release of The King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters, a 2007 documentary about the somewhat intense rivalry between the world’s two highest scoring Donkey Kong players.
Great stuff.
I haven’t got around to watching King Of Kong yet, but I intend to someday soon. I’ll post a review once I do.
