A recent trailer for Soul Calibur IV, the latest installment in Namco’s popular video game franchise, revealed two new playable guest characters – Darth Vader and Yoda - two of the most popular and iconic characters from the Star Wars universe.
Here are some actual screenshots taken from the game:
Previous installments in Namco’s popular game franchise included guest appearances by characters from other companies’ video games like Nintendo’s Link in addition to characters more commonly associated with other media (Image Comics’ Spawn).
Darth Vader will be playable on the PS3 version of the game only, and Yoda will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 port, so unfortunately gamers won’t be able to square off against each other, Jedi Master versus Sith Lord.

Holy fuck, I love Darth Vader.
Holy fuck, indeed.
I like the idea of having these two uber popular Star Wars characters making guest appearances, and personally I don’t understand why some fans are against it.
The Tekken games had Japanese manga character Gon as a playable character way back when, Kingdom Hearts is an insanely popular, odd mash up featuring Final Fantasy and Disney properties, and most recently the latest entry in the Smash Bros. series of games by Nintendo features Solid Snake from Konami’s Metal Gear franchise.
Besides, it’s not like Namco hasn’t done it before. I mean, Spawn’s a fairly odd choice and not at all the sort of character one expects to see duking it out in a fighting game.
