A new poster for this summer’s sequel to Batman Begins:
It’s a cool poster.
Still not sold on the new, more heavily armored version of Batman Begins‘ batsuit. Still looks a bit too “action figure” for my tastes. You know, “Ninja Suit Batman With New Action Stealth Armor!”
Thematically, the new, armor-like suit does fit in with Lieutenant Gordon’s comments made at the end of the last film about both sides of Gotham’s war on crime gearing up. So I’m willing to give it a pass.
From a practical standpoint, with the greater mobility allowed by the new suit’s design, hopefully we’ll see Batman move a little better. The last film’s action sequences were really hard to follow. The (intentionally?) poor lighting and quick cuts made it hard to tell what Bats was up to a lot of the time.
Interestingly, in interviews prior to the release of Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan discussed the look of the batsuit over the proposed trilogy of Bat films, noting that as the movies progress, audiences would notice a move away from the armored, sculpted look of Batman Begins towards a simpler, less showy costume more reminiscent of the one used in the comic books. The change in costume would reflect Batman’s increasing skill as a costumed crimefighter.
Regardless, it’d be pretty crazy if the Joker actually does something as ridiculous as blowing a giant bat-shaped hole into the side of a building, either to attract Bats’ attention or to set him up as a public menace.
I guess we’ll see on July 18th.
