Game Developer Inti Creates is working on a Mega Man sequel – not Mega Man X, not Mega Man Zero, not Mega Man ZX – plain, old regular Mega Man. You know, this guy:
I’m a big fan of the little guy. In fact, I still own 6 of the original 8 Mega Man games (all the ones for NES), and I’ve played through all 8 games of the original series starting with this one:
Mega Man 7 for the Super NES was the first game in the series not released on the old Nintendo Entertainment System and featured 16-bit graphics and sound:
Ah, memories…
The best news for old school gamers like myself, Mega Man 9, which will release for WiiWare, XBox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network, returns the series to its old 8-bit roots!
Check it out -
That’s right! The graphics, music, and sound effects will resemble the original 8-bit Mega Man.
There are 8 new Robot Masters, one of them female:
Magma Man
Galaxy Man
Jewel Man
Concrete Man
Hornet Man
Plug Man
Tornado Man
Splash Woman
Guessing Dr. Wily will have to make an appearance as well.
(What do you suppose the odds are that Splash Woman’s power works best on Magma Man?)
A movie based on the popular video game franchise Prince Of Persia is in the works, titled Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time, and starring Jake Gyllenhaal as the title character, Gemma Arterton (I’ve never heard of her, but according to The Internet Movie Database, she has a role in this fall’s Quantum Of Solace, the followup to Casino Royale), Alfred Molina, and Ben Kingsley.
Excellent casting!
The movie, a “Jerry Bruckheimer production,” is being directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, Four Weddings And A Funeral) and is scheduled for a 2009 release…
I’ve played through a bit of the first game, (Sands Of Time was hugely successful and led to two sequels, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones.), and I’ve seen the others in action.
